There is a garden amongst
These cement walls
Amongst all these people
There is a garden of trees
Where kittens roam
And snakes fall from tree branches
But there is nothing to fear
The snakes are the friends
Of the kittens
The snakes won’t bite you
They only eat flowers
I wanted to kill them too
But then I saw them
Playing with the kittens
And munching on flowers

I'm so excited! Below is the short story assignment that my son had in his English class. I discovered it right before he passed it! I asked him why he didn't show it to me and he said that if he showed it to me, I might share it to my audience and that they might find it mediocre, thus "tainting" my "C. JoyBell C. name"! He didn't want to ruin my reputation as an author by being a son who produces "mediocre stories"! I told him, "Are you nuts? This is great! You have a better vocabulary than mine and I want to read the rest of this story, already! Where did you learn to write like this? This sounds like Old Norse legend! All these names of characters and place names sound like they're real and like they actually exist! And all of this magic! It sounds mastered!" I was truly blown away, I had no idea my son could write like this! I mean, just because I'm a writer, that doesn't mean he has to be good at writing, too! But lo and behold! I am so excited to share with you my 13-year-old's short story English class assignment! You'll probably not enjoy it as much as I did, since I'm his mother, but I do hope you'll enjoy it very much so! And thank you for being there to read the things that I write and now to read something which my son has written! Grazia di Dio.
The story had to end rather abruptly, because it is just an assignment and he was constrained by time, so I hope you are not too surprised by the ending; just remember it's an English class desk assignment, so it just couldn't go on forever! And now feeling very honoured to be his mother, I give you my son's, The Siege of Snowveil:

Men can get carried away
With the idea of saving someone
They can fall in love with the idea
Of being a saviour
Or a hero
But what if you don’t need
To be saved?
What if you’re already happy?
What’s wrong with letting yourself
Even without an other half?
What if you don’t need a knight?
What if you are your own knight?
What’s wrong with being a knight
There’s nothing wrong
With being a happy knight
And you can have your own
It can shine with glitters
You can glue on the glitters yourself!
But I think a guy can get carried away
With the idea of saving you
But what if you’ve already
What if you already did that on your own?
There’s nothing wrong with that!
Love doesn’t have to be
Only for the weak
Love doesn’t need to be
Only for the lost
What if you’re not lost anymore?
Because what if you found yourself
Inside of yourself?
Or what if you found your way
On your own?
And what if you’re happy?
Love is for the happy, too!
Love is also for the happy
And the unlost
Love is also for the unforgotten
So be a knight
Climb a tree
Eat a cherry
And be happy
Love will come

When we create a mindset in children, adults, societies as a whole, that moves on the notion that we are all the same and we need to be all the same, what this does, is create a need to either make other people become like us, or make ourselves become like other people. Because in actuality we are not the same in the colour of our skin and when we do happen to be the same in the colour of our skin, we are not the same in our beliefs and when we do happen to be the same in the colour of our skin and in our beliefs, we are still not the same in mind, heart, spirit, soul. We do not have the same desires and when we do join into a group in order to achieve like desires, we have different ideas of how to achieve them. And when we do have unity in both desire and method of achievement, we have different methods of expressions. When we do happen to have the same desires, methods of achievement, and expressions, we will have different ways of implementing these expressions in our own lives, because, all of our lives are a different story. We are not all living in the same story! Each of our lives is a different story, and that's okay. And so you see, the current mindset of unity does not produce unity, at all, because it is fake; it is not real. It is unreal, it is unreal, it is false, it is fake. We do not need to make others like ourselves and we do not need to make ourselves like others; not in religion, not in deed, not in mind, not in heart. Peace and unity, harmony and oneness— these are not achieved by imagining something to be there when it is not there, or by imagining something to not be there when it is in fact there! These are achieved by the acceptance of all of these differences and by the genuine desire to understand and learn from these differences.
Too often, I have had conversations with people wherein I have pointed out that something appears different to me because my culture is like this, and something feels different to me because my story is like that— so on and so forth— only to be met with a blankness and the same cookie-cutter answer, "Oh I don't see you as different, what does any of that have to do with anything at all? I just see you as you and that has nothing to do with anything" and these people are actually convinced that they are acting out of love, out of a "higher place" when in fact, they are only acting as directed by the error of a single propagated mindset that has successfully bred in the minds of the masses of people the world over! I am in fact telling them that they need to look at this fact about me, in order to understand that what they are saying is not going to have the same effect upon me as it would have upon them, because we are in fact different! Because that is how empathy and understanding is created! We do not empathise and understand people by telling them that we do not consider or even see how we are any different! No! We empathise and understand people by saying, "Hey, your story looks a lot different, you must be coming from a really different place and this must feel a whole lot different to you than it does to me because of how you have come to understand the world, which is totally different from how I came to understand the world, so why don't I listen to you and stop and think about what your story is, how it feels like, and then I will come to learn from our differences and learn to know you." That is how empathy happens, that is how unity, harmony and peace happens. It doesn't happen by saying that we are all the same, or by wanting all of us to be the same.
They say that in the eyes of God, we are all the same, but I do not believe this. I think that if any pair of eyes is most aware of every single one of our minute differences, that would be God's pair of eyes! What in the world is so wonderful about the idea of everyone being the same, anyway? There is nothing appealing to me in that thought! I believe that God is aware of all of our smallest, intermediate and biggest differences and He's totally fine with that! In fact, I think it is the gap in between these differences that produces the incense of worship that raises into the heavens! If there is a form of collective worship to any Heaven, anywhere, I believe that is in the beauty of the human existence, existing for and of what it is.
As for me, I believe that God has no religion, that all religions were created by man for financial gain and power, I believe that what rawly exists is truth that has been spread out and handed out through the many, many ages, through different windows/ different ways of being, in order to reach people of different mindsets, cultures and tongues. Then the people, somewhere along the way, decided that each of their truths needed to be the only truth, the only one way, thus creating hate and intolerance. I believe that the truth is, that there are many paths to one truth, spoken in different languages, by different peoples, and I believe that truth has never called for intolerance and hatred of any other belief or group of people. If there is a belief that calls for intolerance of other people— that belief is not of God. If there is any belief that calls for one to judge one's fellowman— that belief is not of God. The only truth for mankind, must be the truth that all are free and all are different. We are not the same and we do not need to be the same. The only evil is the lack of empathy for another human being, the lack of mercy and kindness. The absence of those things is the mark of evil. If any of your religious beliefs lead you into a mindset that lacks empathy, mercy and kindness— these religious beliefs are not truth.
Many of the religious belief systems of today were heavily influenced along the way, throughout the ages, by man and woman. And even your religions in their "purity", if you examine their history, you will find, that they are all a blend of one another. And there are very ancient systems of spirituality, existing long before the major religions of today, that when examined, will render up the fact that the major religions of today are simply reinventions of those earlier spiritualities, recreated and remodelled in order to appease a certain so and so in power, in order to speak to a popular mainstream mindset of the day, and so on and so forth. Seriously. You need to study history, you need to know, you need to be informed! And does any of this disprove the existence of the spirit, of truth, of myth, of God? No. Spirit and truth and myth and God— these are not disproved by the falling apart of the pedestals of religion! For these things have simply been reinvented throughout the ages, some more heavily influenced by humans than others. And these things have not called unto religion! Religion has drawn from these things to create systems in order to appease, control and gain from— fellow man.
Just look at the English names for the days of the week, for example! The days of the week are named after Heathen Gods! Thursday comes from Thorr! Sunday from the Goddess Sunna! Wednesday is from "Woden's Day" (Odinn's Day) meaning the God Odinn! And so on and so forth. Oh and I could delve into this even further, to show how actually all the names of days and months, in many languages, are after Pagan Gods! Even the planets, stars and constellations are named after these! And so many people are living every day, convinced of the "purity" of their religions and spiritual beliefs, while marking their calendars every week, unaware that they are paying their odes to Heathen gods while doing so! And what is wrong with having these Heathen Gods in our calendars and in our stars and planets and months and in our children's fables and everywhere all around us, even in the original forms of our religions? Nothing! Nothing is "wrong" with that, because that is just the facts of life!
